The UK, as well as Canada, seems to have northern pintails as native birds, but another pintail species that I saw at Regent's Park is the white-cheeked pintail. This bird is native to Central and South America and the Caribbean. It's kind of like being in a glorified zoo when you see all these different creatures in collections here. I've written about it before that I question the ethics of it, but I have to admit that it seems that mainly the parakeets are the ones that have become real pests here, in terms of invasive species, so I guess I shouldn't get too upset. In any case, like its norther counterpart, this pintail is sleek and graceful, one of the most elegant birds I've ever seen. It isn't perhaps so obvious here, mainly because its head is down, but when they lift up their heads, that's when it looks most stunning.
