One bird name that I don't know if I'll be able to get used to here is the tit. In Canada, it is only used as a somewhat vulgar term for breasts, so the fact that it's a bird type here is hard to get used to as the vulgarity of it is quite engrained in my psyche. In North America, we have this family of birds as well, but we call them chickadees, a name I much prefer. However, I can't go around calling this a long-tailed chickadee, because no one would know what I'm talking about, so I have to leave it as is. Some things just never translate well into other languages--or in this case, a dialect.
Again, another quick-moving bird in Bath, I wasn't able to get a super clear shot of this long-tailed tit, but I was excited to learn about this species. I had looked up the various types of tits in Britain, and this one didn't appear, so I thought perhaps it was rare. It turns out it's relatively common, only it just didn't appear in that list I came across, so oh well. It wasn't that disappointing because after all, it's a new bird for me to learn about anyway, right? So what's not to love about that?
