Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla)

I had seen one of these briefly in Skomer Island as well, but I never got a photo of it, and I wasn't quite but one day while in Shetland, we took a wildlife boat tour that mainly shows you nesting locations of the birds (it's ethical, don't worry; you're in a boat and can't disturb the birds because you're not taken near enough to them.) on some of the nearby islands. In this case, we toured Bressay and Noss, and we were able to see some young kittiwakes there, too. Most of them had apparently left for the season, already, so unfortunately, I couldn't get any photos of adults, but at least I got a somewhat decent photo of a youngster (it's sometimes hard in a moving boat to keep the camera still enough!). I think these birds are really cute; their beaks seem a little shorter, almost like a button-nosed human face.
