Jackdaw (Corvus monedula)

Another bird from the corvid family that I've become more familiar with is the jackdaw. You may recall that corvids include crows, jays, and ravens, all of which exist here in the UK, but I'll be lucky to be somewhere to see a jay or a raven since I don't know if I'll be going to places where you can see them. Anyway, I first saw jackdaws when we went to Salisbury/Stonehenge. I had been seeing them flying around but didn't manage to get any photos of them as they always managed to fly off just as I was about to snap a photo. So I was pretty excited to have been able to see them all over the place when we recently went to Cornwall, although I wasn't happy about how noisy they are when there are so many of them! Having said that, I do recommend listening to them in the sound clip linked above. They don't sound anything like crows or ravens and appear to make only one sound. I don't mind the sound, actually, but when there are so many, the sound can be a little too much, which is what can be annoying, especially when you're trying to sleep early in the morning.

The main thing you would notice about their physical appearance compared to crows is that they have a silver neck. I think it looks really pretty. They have eyes to match, and their beaks are a little shorter and straighter as well. I was able to get a few good photos of them, so now I can finally post them on my blog.
