Chiloé wigeon (Mareca sibilatrix)

This bird was one of those non-native species that baffled me. I actually thought it might be a hybrid since the head has a similar shape and tone to a mallard head, and the body plumage was not all that disimilar from a garganey. But of course, I was quite wrong. The chiloé wigeon comes from South America, and according to the website I've linked, it's a fairly popular bird in collections here in the UK. It's quite beautiful, and even though I'm not a fan of all these non-native birds in collections, I have to admit that it's neat to be exposed to birds that I will otherwise probably never get to see otherwise.
