Barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis)

Yet another goose you can see at St James Park is the barnacle goose. It's unclear to me where it gets its name from, because according to the link I shared, this bird doesn't eat barnacles. You imagine it gets its name from eating barnacles off whales in some kind of symbiotic relationship, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Anyway, as I mentioned in another post, it's interesting to see such a vast array of different kinds of geese here, whether they're native to the region or not. There's just so much diversity that I could even imagine before moving here.
