Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica)

One bird I often find difficult to photograph is the swallow (and their similar species, martins and swifts) because you don't often see them sitting for long periods of time. I finally saw one resting on a rooftop at the launch point for Skomer Island, but the lighting was poor, and I was at some distance, so the photo I have here is the best photo I was able to get of the swallow. In North America, these are known as barn swallows, so technically this isn't a lifer for me, but I learned that there are white-breasted barn swallows, which are different from what I've seen at home, so in a way, it's a lifer for me to see this particular colour variant of the species. I also ended up seeing several on some barbed wire at another location called St Justinian's, but unfortunately, I was too unstable, and I wasn't able to get high enough up over the hedgerows to get a clear shot, so what you see below is my decision to take a photo of the cattle to give you an idea the birds sitting on the fence. There were many more at one point, but most had disappeared by the time I figured out to try to take this photo.
