It has been a while since I updated my blog. We didn't get up to much in July for various reasons, but we've been able to be a bit more active lately. Around the 3rd week in August, we decided to head to the Tate Museum to see the Turner exhibit. My husband had recently become a fan of this artist, and after viewing the exhibition, I would add a newfound fandom of my own for Turner. For me, it's not just that his paintings are so incredible--especially because many are done with watercolour, which has always been one of the most difficult mediums to work with for me--but also because the subjects of his paintings cover so much of historical periods that I've taught in high school social studies that I can't wait until I'm teaching it again so I can bring in interdisciplinary techniques like adding artists to students' learning that help them understand and interpret historical events. I had a history professor like that in university, and he could connect literature and art to our learning, which just made it so much more interesting.
Anyway, this is mainly a photo album post. I have included the descriptions of the paintings after their photos, and in some cases, there is more than one plaque because the title was sometimes separated from the explanation behind the painting or the scene. However, there's a teaser because there was a beautifully flowering pub on our walk to the museum that starts the album :)
